About Us

The Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District is located 30 miles north of Chicago and serves a 16 square mile suburban area that includes the majority of the Villages of Lincolnshire and Riverwoods along with portions of the Villages of Vernon Hills, Mettawa, Prairie View and Unincorporated areas of Lake County, Illinois. The District protects residential, mercantile, office, warehouse, and industrial property. The District currently staffs three fire stations, 24 hours a day.

We also protect commercial buildings that range from 3 – 6 stories in height and many large area buildings that range from 800 thousand to 1 million square feet. A new development known as the Sedgebrook Retirement Community has currently completed and inhabited four (4) five story interconnected residential buildings that are attached to a five story parking garage and a 2 story community center. This is only phase one of a development that when built out will contain fifteen (15) five to seven story interconnected residential buildings with multiple community centers, elevated parking garages, and a population of almost 2000 elderly residents.

Critical infrastructure within the District includes a commuter and freight rail line, a major petroleum and natural gas pipeline, several cellular phone towers, multiple water storage and distribution systems, a major telephone switching station, and electrical distribution. We also protect the O’Hare Airport Vortex (transponder for air traffic control on a primary flight pattern), portions of the Des Plaines River and the Tri State Tollway, the Sedgebrook Retirement Community, and one of the largest high schools in the state (Stevenson HS – population 5500), and a College of Lake County Campus. In our secondary response area we assist a border fire department in protecting the Chicagoland Executive Airport.
